JOB DESCRIPTION

 

ACCOUNTANT III

 

Minimum Qualifications:     

High school graduate.  Successful score on accounting test.  Twelve college hours of accounting classes from an accredited institution of higher education or at least eight years of experience performing progressively difficult accounting tasks preferred.  Successful completion of interview process.    

 

Immediate Supervisor:         School Business Manager

 

Salary:                                    Service Personnel Salary Class F with all other benefits afforded a Regular Employee

 

Terms of Employment:         240 day employment term

 

Evaluation:                            Performance on this job will be evaluated by the School Business Official in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of service personnel. 

 

JOB GOAL:                          Prepares district accounts payable on a timely basis, maintains accuracy and conformance with federal and state laws and district policies and contracts.  Assists with other bookkeeping tasks and other jobs as assigned.

    5. Maintains a knowledge of the following:

-           Handbook of School Finance in West Virginia.

-          The Manual of Purchasing, Receiving, Inventory Control, and Accounts Payable.

-          WV School Law that applies to the specific job assignment.

-          Tax Laws regarding issuance of 1099 to accounts payable vendors.

-          All other books/manuals necessary to complete job assignment.

 

 

Performance Responsibilities:

 

The employee shall have the following responsibilities:

1.      Prepares and maintains accounts payable files, records, and reports.

2.      Prepares purchase order completion and purchase order reports.

3.      Enters data into computer systems all information necessary to generate purchase orders and vendor payments.

4.      Verifies accuracy, completeness and approval of above source documents. 

5.      Enters into computer system all information necessary to generate payroll deductions.   

6.      Performs distribution of accounts payable checks.  

7.      Prepares/supervises periodic reports of a statistical, accounting, or financial nature as required within the district and for outside organizations.

8.      Effectively performs detailed work involving written or numerical data, posts data, and makes mathematical computations rapidly and accurately.  Uses independent judgment and interpretive abilities, and identifies problems which require supervisory attention. 

9.      Performs other tasks as required.
