JOB DESCRIPTION
Assistant Principal
Qualifications:
1. Masters Degree.
2. WV Certification in Education Administration
3. Teaching and administrative experience at the specified programmatic level.
4. Successful applicant will need to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
· Staff relations, including, but not limited to, the development and use of skills necessary to make positive use of Faculty Senates, to manage faculty and staff with courtesy and mutual respect, coach and motivate employees, and to build consensus as a means of management;
· School community leadership qualities, including, but not limited to, the ability to organize and leverage community initiative, communicate effectively, work effectively with Local School Improvement Councils, manage change, resolve conflict, and reflect the highest personal values;
· Educational proficiencies, including, but not limited to, knowledge of curriculum, instructional techniques, student learning styles, student assessment criteria, school personnel performance, evaluation skills, and family issues; and
· Administrative Skills, including, but not limited to, organizational, fiscal, public policy and total quality management skills and techniques.
Immediate Supervisor: Principal.
Salary: To be determined by the Board.
Terms of Employment: Specified by Board.
Job Goal: To assist the Principal in the thorough and efficient functioning of the school
Administrative Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates instructional leadership to enhance school effectiveness by improving instruction and augmenting student performance.
2. Provides direction and purpose for schools/county.
3. Demonstrates cognitive skills to gather, analyze, and synthesize information to reach goals.
4. Manages group behaviors to achieve consensus.
5. Enhances quality or total school/county organization.
6. Organizes and delegates to accomplish goals.
7. Communicates effectively.
8. Assumes responsibility for assisting in the general supervision of all school activities involving pupils, teachers, and other school personnel.
9. Assists in establishing and maintaining an effective learning climate in the school.
10. Assumes responsibility for the school in the absence of the Principal.
11. Completes evaluations as assigned by the Principal.
12. Administers certain programs as assigned by the Principal such as food service, custodial service, textbook requisition, etc.
13. Assists in the provision of a school-wide discipline plan.
14. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline according to due process for the rights of students.
15. Maintains school records in areas such as grades and discipline.
16. Able to enter, maintain and retrieve data from WVEIS.
17. Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students and works with the County Attendance Director on attendance and drop out prevention programs.
18. Performs additional reasonable job-related responsibilities assigned by the building Principal.

Demonstrates a knowledge of supervision to improve instruction; uses the evaluation process to improve instruction effectively; analyzes a variety of educational data to focus on student achievement; guides teachers in their professional growth; and facilitates a climate that is conducive to student learning and development.

4. Views self as the school/county leader, initiates action, takes responsibility and motivates others to assist in setting and achieving goals.
5. Manifests educational values about the school/county including students’ welfare, fairness to staff, effective communication with parents, and demonstrates behavior consistent with values.
6. Generates, evaluates, and selects effective solutions in making decisions and solving problems.
7. Attends professional development sessions to enhance and improve skills.
8. Demonstrates effective use of computer skills to prepare reports and compile data.
9. Demonstrates effective use of group processes and facilitator skills.
10. Understands the diversity among groups and modifies the interaction style to fit the situation. Encourages and facilitates meaningful and effective parent-teacher communication.
11. Commands respect by example in appearance, manners, behavior, and language.
12. Delegates authority and responsibility clearly and appropriately.
13. Uses oral and verbal communication skills clearly, with clarity, and uses correct grammar, spelling, and appropriate language.
14. Creates opportunities for development of human resources through effective use of coaching, and the use of staff development to foster individual growth.
15. Demonstrates effective school financial management.
