Athletic Director

 

Qualifications:

  1. WV Teacher Certification for the appropriate teaching assignment.
  2. Employee of Hardy County Schools
  3. Three years coaching experience desired.

 

Immediate Supervisor:

?          School Principal

 

Supervises:

?          All Coaching Staff under the direction of the School Prinicpal

 

Salary:

?          To be determined by the Board

 

Terms of Employment:

?          203 days

 

Evaluation:

?          Performed annually by Principal in accordance with Evaluation Policy of the Hardy County Board of Education

 

Job Goal:

?          To provide direction to Middle/Secondary Interscholastic sports programs

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Provides supervision or assigns supervision for all home athletic events and any away events as directed by the Principal.
  2. Develops all athletic schedules to reduce conflicts with other school events.
  3. Works with athletic staff to schedule practice and games to minimize conflicts over facility use.
  4. Approves all financial transactions by the Athletic Department and the individual sport’s coaches.  Approves all purchase orders through the Principal.
  5. Fostering of good school-community relations by keeping the community aware and responsive to the athletic program.
  6. Serve as school liaison to and attend booster club meetings and activities.
  7. In cooperation with the school principal, plan, coordinate and maintain the school master calendar for the scheduling of student activities and the use of school facilities.
  8. Responsible for contacting the Transportation Director for transportation for all away games.
  9. Responsible for contracts:
    1. Check contracts of officials
    2. Check interscholastic game contracts
  10. Athletic Insurance
    1. Check to determine whether students participating in athletics are adequately insured
    2. Inform parents of athletes that school insurance is supplemental and that the parent must file a claim with their own insurance company before school insurance will pay
  11. Responsible for eligibility lists for all sports and subsequent reporting to WVSSAC and participating schools:
    1. Check residency and grade eligibility of athletes
  12. Attends necessary meetings and is responsible to notify all coaches that are required to attend coached clinics
  13. Works with staff assigned by the Principal for efficient functioning of assigned home games
  14. Enforces all policies and rules of the Athletic Department
  15. Assists administrative staff/principal in evaluating all coaches within 30 days of the close of the season
  16. Arranges physical exams for all athletes and maintains written reports

  2. Uses oral and verbal communication skills clearly, with clarity, and uses correct grammar, spelling, and appropriate language
  3. Keeps Principal/School Administration informed of any necessary information
  4. Mentors/models for inexperienced coaches
  5. Promotes good sportsmanship
