Job Description

 

Position:                      Paraprofessional/ sign Language Interpreter

                                    Countywide

                                   

Qualifications

·                     Strong Sign Language Skills

·                     Two year degree preferred

·                     Eligible for the Educational Sign Language Interpreter License from the WVDE as outlined in WV State Board Policy 5202.

·                     Ability to work independently and make effective decisions

·                     Ability to communicate effectively with students, school personnel, and parents.

·                     Ability to motivate students and get them excited about learning

 

Responsibilities:

 

·                     Responsible to appropriate principal through designee

·                     Follows applicable school and county policies and procedures as well as  state policies.

·                     Perform interpreter duties in academic settings so that students will have a full understanding of the curriculum being delivered by instructors. Interpret for student participation in classroom instruction. Provide additional interpreting duties to non-signing teachers, students, etc. so that student can understand directions.

·                     Observe the interpreter code of ethics except where our responsibility for student “in loco parentis’ is an overriding importance.

·                     Maintain positive and professional relationship with all students and staff.

·                     Perform duties in an efficient, productive and professional manner.

·                     Meet professional responsibilities and participates in Professional development activities as required

Terms of

Employment:               Multi-classified service personnel position. Salary based on qualifications.
