JOB DESCRIPTION
Qualifications:
1) Meet minimum standards for teaching certification as set forth by the West Virginia State Board of Education in Minimum Standards for the licensure of West Virginia School Personnel for the subject and grade level assigned. Masters degree Preferred.
2) Three years successful teaching experience.
3) Good evaluations and/or recommendations from professional associates, employers, and/or supervisors.
4) Ability to work independently and make effective decisions.
5) Ability to communicate effectively with students, school personnel, and parents, and an ability to work cooperatively with others.
6) Ability to motivate students and get them excited about learning.
Immediate Supervisor: Principal.
Salary: Regular teacher’s contract with additional pay at $400.00 for ½ time assignment and $800.00 for a full-time assignment as Head Teacher and a $600.00 index for full time and $300.00 index for half-time employment.
Evaluation: Completed with the Supervising Principal as Professional Support Staff in accordance with Hardy County Board of Education policy.
Job Goal: To assist the Principal in effectively managing the school.
Responsibilities:
1) Deals with student problems in cooperation with Principal, Counselors, the Attendance Director, the Special Education Director and representative of outside agencies;
2) Must maintain a teaching assignment for this assignment. A half-time head teacher would teach students for half of the day and a full-time head teacher would be responsible for teaching one section per day;
3) Maintains and periodically reviews student discipline records;
4) Works with administrative staff to maintain school discipline plan;
5) Will maintain orderly school operations in the absence of the principal.
6) Performs other duties and functions as assigned by the principals.
7) Keeps administrative staff informed of all activities;
8) Monitors and maintains the school inventory, including textbooks and instructional materials, as assigned by the principal.
9) Coordinates applications and use of WVEIS as assigned by the principal.
10) Participates in Professional Development activities as required by position;
11) Follows rules, policies and procedures as specified;
12) Maintains confidentiality.

2) Assists Principal in monitoring student attendance and/or discipline, as assigned.

1) Communicates with students, parents, educational personnel, and others;
2) Utilizes standard grammar, listening skills, and clarity in the presentation of ideas:
3) Communicates student progress according to established procedures and policies;
4) Communicates regularly and effectively with students, co-workers, parents/guardians, and the community and exhibits appropriate interactive skills;
5) Follows confidentiality procedures regarding students, parents/guardians, and fellow staff members;
6) Speaks and writes standard English clearly, correctly, and distinctly; determines and utilizes appropriate community resources.
