Reading Mentor/Project Assistant Coordinator

Job Description

 

Qualifications:

1.      Masters Degree

2.      WV Certification in Elementary Education with an endorsement to reflect specialization in Reading.

3.      Five years demonstrated teaching experience at the specified programmatic level.

4.      Successful applicant will need to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

Managing the  faculty and staff with courtesy and mutual respect, coach and motivate employees in the use of the principles of the Reading First Project;

Provide demonstrated expertise in the five essential components of Reading, Professional Development and Assessments

Educational proficiencies, including, but not limited to, knowledge of curriculum, instructional techniques, student learning styles, and student assessment criteria.

 

 

Immediate Supervisor:   Principal and Project Director as assigned by the Superintendent

 

Terms of Employment: Specified by Board of Education for the duration of the grant.

                                         (Approximately April, 2004 – June 2006)        

 

Evaluation:  Yearly evaluation as outlined in Hardy County Board of Education Policy

 

Responsibilities:  

1.      Attend twenty-six days of professional training over a two-year period

2.      Observe K-3 classroom teachers and provide constructive feedback.

3.      Model effective classroom instruction.

4.      Coordinate and assess the daily operation of the Reading First school site program and report to the Project Coordinator.

5.      Assist staff in selecting and securing appropriate instructional materials, strategies, programs;

6.      Attend local, state and national meetings.

7.      Participate in lesson videotaping, listservs, and dissemination of Reading First Program development;

8.      Meet monthly with the principal and project coordinator for program planning, implementation, evaluation;

9.      Coordinate ongoing and sustained professional development;

10.  Meet and plan with Reading Cadre liaison and Reading Leadership Team.

11.  Serve as the school liaison for assessment coordinator;

12.  Complete necessary paperwork and reports as required by the operation of the grant program; and

13.  Offer technical assistance within the participating school(s) concerning grant implementation; 

14.  Assumes responsibility for assisting in the general supervision of the Reading First grant.

15.  Supervise the maintenance of accurate records of the assessment data.

7.      Understands the diversity among groups and modifies the interaction style to fit the situation. Encourages and facilitates meaningful and effective team-teacher communication.

8.      Commands respect by example in appearance, manners, behavior and language.

9.      Delegates authority and responsibility clearly and appropriately.

10.  Uses oral and verbal communication skills clearly, with clarity and using correct grammar, spelling and appropriate language.

11.  Creates opportunities for development of human resources through effective use of coaching, and the use of staff development to foster individual growth.
