JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Director of Student Support Services
QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Must have West Virginia Teaching Certification.
2) Must have a Master’s Degree in an education area from an accredited institution of higher learning, preferably in an area of Special Education. However, must hold certification in an area of Special Education with experience teaching in that area.
3) Must have, or be eligible for an Education Leadership Certificate.
4) Must have three years prior successful experience in both teaching and supervision.
5) Must have administration or supervisory experience and training.
6) Must demonstrate experience in preparing and monitoring program budgets.
SKILLS PREFERRED:
1) Capacity to provide administrative management to assigned programs.
2) Knowledge of teaching and instruction.
3) Prior experience teaching in a Special Education area.
4) Familiar with wide range of instructional programs.
5) Prior documented training in Differentiated Instruction and Response to Intervention Model.
5) Familiar with wide range of administrative programs.
6) Knowledge in technology application and use.
7) Demonstrates skill in capacity building.
8) Success in preparing and obtaining federal and/or state grant writing.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
SUPERVISES: All Special Education Staff, Preschool Program Staff and Guidance Counselors in cooperation with School Principals. Responsible for direct supervision/evaluation of School Nurses and Attendance Director.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 240 Days
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated at least annually as provided by Board Policy.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Provides leadership and support in the designated administrative programs of Special Education, Health Services, Attendance, Preschool Programs, and Guidance Services.
2) Completes Special Education project applications, budgets, and reports required by state and/or federal agencies.
3) Continuously monitors Special Education programs and budgets.
4) Works closely with school administrative staff to make adjustments to professional development and staffing requirements as needed to serve students’ needs.
5) Maintains familiarity with State and Federal Special Education laws and policies.
6) Prepares and follows up on parental inquiries in a timely fashion.
7) Establishes and maintains good public and employment relations in the areas of Special Education and Student Support Services.
8) Administers Homebound/Hospital Bound Instruction Program.
9) Prepares and Maintains County Crisis Team and Management Plan.
10) Facilitates School Based Health Clinics program through E.A. Hawse.
11) Establishes and utilizes district-wide teams, committees, and councils as are necessary to formulate, implement and evaluate for long-range planning for responsible administrative areas.
12) Regularly attends professional meetings focusing on administrative programs to which assigned.
13) Works with administrative team members to prepare and implement short-and long-range goals.
14) Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with local communities and citizens to foster understanding and solicit support for the overall school program.
15) Coordinates all County Contests for Academic Performance at the County, Regional, and State level.
16) Provides assistance and advice to the Superintendent relative to the employment, assignment, or transfer, of personnel in respective programs.
17) Maintains a working network of peer contacts through professional organizations.
18) Professionally prepares for assuming supervision of other administrative programs as assigned.
19) Performs other job-related duties and functions as assigned by the Superintendent.

12) Uses oral and verbal communication skills clearly, with clarity and uses correct grammar, spelling and appropriate language.
13) Works with Administrative Staff to provide staff within the fiscal restraints of the county budget.
14) Completes required reports in a timely manner.
